MARGAO:  Nationalist Congress Party youth wing president Yuri Alemao has exuded confidence that both the NCP and the Congress would have an alliance to jointly fight the April 12 Lok Sabha polls in Goa to prevent division of the secular votes.
Yuri, who returned to Goa on Sunday from a business trip to Malaysia, however, said that he had proposed the candidature of senior party vice-president Jose Philip D’Souza for South Goa in the event there is no alliance between the two parties this time round.
“Though the party is geared up for the polls, I am confident that the leadership of the Congress and NCP will enter into an alliance to fight the ensuing polls jointly to prevent division of the secular votes,” Yuri said.
While thanking the party leadership for recommending his name as one of the shortlisted candidate for the south Goa seat, Yuri recalled that he had proposed Jose Philip’s name at the party executive committee meeting as the party candidate. “In indeed thank the party leadership for recommending my name as one of the candidate for South Goa. I am also grateful to the party leadership for nominating me to contest the Assembly elections from Sanguem”, he said
On the alliance between the Congress and NCP, he said the Congress should not make a prestige issue on the seat sharing, adding that the alliance partner should realise that NCP is also a national party, which has a sizeable presence in South Goa.
