CUNCOLIM: Cuncolim MLA Yuri Alemao’s supporters on Tuesday demanded that Cuncolim Municipal Council Chairperson Laxman Naik step down from the post alleging corruption.
The supporters urged the MLA to take immediate action against Naik or else it will be an injustice towards the locals, who have voted for Yuri and also the panel backed by him in the municipal council.
The supporters claimed that the chairperson is not friendly towards the people and charged that he was arrogant and disrespectful to locals and even the elected councillors.
They along with another councillor alleged that they smelt a rat in the purchase of streetlights by the council.
One councillor informed Herald that the CMC has purchased 1,400 streetlight fixtures at the rate of Rs 850 per fixture when the market was Rs 790.
