PANJIM: Around 100 contract workers of Zuari Agro Chemicals Limited protested outside the office of the Labour Commissioner at Panjim flaying the retrenchment of 300 workers.
According to the Goa Trade and Commercial Workers’ Union, the company retrenched 300 workers from its DAP Urea and NPK Bagging and Dispatch as well as potash feeding and DAP housekeeping sections of the company at Sancoale.
A statement from Christopher Fonseca, President of Goa Trade and Commercial Workers’ Union, said the workers have begun an indefinite dharna fighting against the “determined increasing harassment and victimization meted out by the ZACL management since the last two years.”
