MARGAO: Villagers and Sarpanch of Zambaulim Vishwajeeta Zambaulikar have threatened to stage a ‘rasta roko,’ if the authorities fail to repair the bridge connecting Zambaulim and Deussa village. The single lane bridge has become very dangerous for commuters and looks like it won’t last any longer, given the amount of traffic the bridge handles every day.
The metal rods of the bridge have started surfacing over the concrete and surface has developed holes. The authorities have not taken time to take responsibility of maintaining, repairing or renovating the bridge.
Villagers inform that the shared pool was constructed and commissioned 25 years ago and the narrow bridge has not been repaired ever since it was constructed.
“When I inquired with the WRD Sanguem I was informed that this bridge falls in Quepem jurisdiction. However, when I enquired in the Quepem water supply and WRD they claimed that the bridge comes in Sanguem jurisdiction and brushed off their responsibility. Every authority points fingers at each other and that attitude has compelled us to stage a rasta roko,” the Sarpanch said.
The state of the bridge is so bad that some of the fillers have developed cracks and pieces of the same have also worn away.
The bridge is being used by as a shortcut from Zambaulim to Quepem. The panchayat has given a strict deadline to the authorities do either start the repair of the bridge or face backlash from the villagers.
