‘Zebra crossing at Panjim bus stand confusing’

PANJIM: As part of its ongoing “Consumer Rights and Responsibilities Awareness” fortnight, GOACAN has written to the Transport Department about the confusing Zebra Crossing that has recently been painted at the KTC bus stand, Panjim.

In its letter addressed to Director Transport (North) Prakash Azavedo, GOACAN stated, “This painting is improper as it does not conform to the specifications. Moreover this Zebra Crossing does not connect to the bus bay where in buses leave and arrive from Dona Paula, Taleigao and Altinho, thereby putting these passengers at risk.”

The forum also pointed out to absence of signage at all the bus bays for the drivers of the buses entering the bays.

The signage, it explained will caution the drivers that they are not to stop on the Zebra Crossing. Also no signage has been put for the passengers so that they are alerted to cross on the Zebra Crossing.

Seeking intervention of the department to restore the Central Zebra Crossing, GOACAN recalled the horrific accident at the bus stand on February 17, 2018 that killed two passengers and three injured.
