Zero result from zero tolerance to corruption

Corruption or ‘zero tolerance’ to corruption, was another of the BJP’s election planks in the run up to the 2012 Assembly elections. However, even recently Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar has been on record to say that in case he decided to take action against the Town and Country Planning Department – of which he is charge– then all officials would be in jail. He was also not very gracious about two other departments that he heads – the police and mining.

Whether this is a compromise or not – that is something that has to be decided by the people.
However, some examples of the more famous cases and status till now are as below:
Babu Kavalekar Case:
The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) of the Vigilance Department has questioned Quepem MLA Chandrakant ‘Babu’ Kavalekar for over five hours in his alleged land purchases in Kerala worth over Rs 5 crore.
According to (then) ACB SP Bosco George the matter would be studied before a final decision on filing of an FIR would be taken. He had also said that they would send a team to Kerala for further investigations.
Kavalekar was apparently questioned over the purchase of properties worth Rs 5.54 crore in Pathanamthitta district in Ranni taluka at Kerala. The investments are said to be in the name of Chandrababu Kavlekar, House No. 167, Bethool, PO Goa. Of the 13 properties, nine are worth Rs 26 lakh, one is worth Rs 17 lakh, another Rs 2.34 crore and two worth Rs 34 lakh.
Kavalekar had also served as industrial development corporation chairman from March 2, 2005 to April 7, 2005, July 19, 2005 to May 13, 2007 and June 28, 2007 to February 10, 2012.
He was accused of being responsible for alleged illegalities during allotment of land to SEZs as well as alleged irregularities in allotment of plots – ie there is an accusation that plots were being given to known people.
