A tense situation was reported during the ongoing Zilla Panchayat (ZP) elections at Raia, after AAP leader Neri Fernandes confronted a sitting panch over alleged attempts to influence voters within the polling station premises.
According to information available, Peter Quadros, the sitting panch of Raia Panchayat, was allegedly seen influencing voters at the church premises of Booth No. 12, located at Our Lady of Snows School. The issue was raised by Neri Fernandes, who objected to the presence and actions of the panch in the sensitive polling area.
Fernandes reportedly questioned the conduct, stating that election rules strictly prohibit canvassing or influencing voters within polling station premises. The incident drew attention from voters and party workers present at the location.
Election officials were informed about the matter, and sources said the situation was later brought under control. Polling continued thereafter, with authorities maintaining that all necessary steps would be taken to ensure a free and fair election process.
