ZP ordinance: HC notices to govt, election commission

PANJIM: High Court has issued notices to the government, director of panchayats and the state election commission, asking them to file their replies on two petitions filed before it which have challenged the Ordinance which allows Zilla Panchayat elections to be fought on party lines, as also the delimitation of wards.

The next hearing has been fixed for next week.
The petitions challenged the fighting of elections on party lines and alleged that the delimitation process has been done with political interference, that no proper hearing was done, and suggestions were not included.
The Court has asked the government to file its replies on the two different petitions, one filed by Daya Pagi from South and the other by Arjun Arosker from North Goa.
Government advocate argued Wednesday that the elections process is on. One more petition on reservation of STs will come up Thursday.
