Zuari Bridge four-lane road by May-end: Min

Says bridge work is on a war footing and eight lanes will be thrown open to the public by year-end

VASCO: Stating that the new Zuari Bridge work is going on a war footing, PWD Minister Deepak Pauskar on Tuesday assured that the four-lane road along the bridge will be thrown open to public by May-end this year and the eight lanes by year-end.

Speaking after launching the hotmixing work of NH66 from Verna to Margao at Toyota showroom, Kesarval-Cortalim estimated at Rs 9 crore, he said that the work is expected to complete within 20 days.

Cortalim MLA Alina Saldanha and Nuvem MLA Wilfred D’Sa were present.

Speaking to media persons, the minister informed that the Centre has sanctioned Rs 150 crore for hotmixing and repair of roads in the State, Rs 70 crore to undertake repairs of culvert and small bridges and Rs 16 crore to provide new sewage connections to the PWD. 

He said, “The Zuari Bridge work will be carried out phase-wise. The work is being supervised and we are receiving updates. The four-lane road will be opened for public by May-end this year and the eight lanes by December-end”.

The Cortalim MLA launched the work of laying 100 mm DI PWD water pipeline in Ward No 8 at Zuarinagar, Sancoale estimated at Rs 7,32,326, which has been awarded to M/s Shahul Hameed. PWD Assistant Engineer Eknath Paste and Technical Assistant Mohan Naik were present.

Saldanha said, “With the laying of this PWD water pipeline water supply related issues will be resolved. The residents of the area are facing a lot of hardship due to irregular water supply. Panch Kavita Kamal has been pursuing this matter with me quite often.”
