Cat Video has released Jerry Cal’s DVD ‘Ugddas M Boyer-acho’, which is dedicated to his late spouse Theresa Fernandes. It carries 12 songs on varied themes, rendered in the form of solos, duo, duets and trios.
The title song, ‘Ugddas M Boyer-acho’ by Jerry Cal, speaks about Padmashree M Boyer who mesmerised the tiatr audience with his songs and tiatrs. ‘Men are created with different gifts and talents,’ he says. Being his close friend, the singer sings praises of this noted tiatrist and compares him to popular football players like Pele and Maradona in the field of sports. He also speaks about his memorable cantos in his tiatrs and the applause he received from Goans and Mangaloreans alike, for his valuable songs. He concludes his song praying for the repose of his soul.
The next song, duet ‘Jurament’ by Benny de Aldona and Bushka, speaks about ties and the breakup that follows after eight years of promise. A married woman expresses the desire to return to a previous lover in the absence of her husband. But the lover, a bachelor, advises her not to destroy a happy home by falling prey to infidelity. ‘Forget me and safeguard your husband’s home,’ he concludes.
‘Mannik Doulotichem’, a solo by Olga Vaz, speaks about how Goa was safeguarded by Dr Jack Sequeira and the greed among the modern politicians who are only out to loot and destroy the tiny state, by selling it to non-Goans. ‘Earlier the soldiers died in war, but today the politicians are entangled in corruption, with false pride in their hearts.’
Two trios – ‘Zomnicho Rakhonndar’ and ‘Goykaranchi Ranni’ by Salvador, Mini Mario and Pascoal – highlight two different issues related to Goans and Goa. The former brings to light the selfless works of late Fr Bismarque Dias to safeguard the environment and justice denied after his gruesome death. The latter reflects the importance of the coconut tree and its utility in every household. They oppose its declaration as grass and curse the powers to be.
‘Devachem Nirmonn’, the sole duo in the album by Benny de Aldona and Jerry Cal, highlights the concern towards the spinster sister in the family. The elder brother seeks help from the younger sibling, but he fails to realise his own responsibility towards his sister.
‘Londoncho Nouro’, a solo by Bushka, offers advice to spinsters to not fall prey to proposals coming from bachelors serving abroad. Although a boy from London rejected her at the behest of her father’s friend, she says she is happy as God hasn’t abandoned her.
‘Sobit Calangute’, a solo by Jerry Cal, and ‘Kuzner’ by Peter de Ucassaim speak about a popular village and profession respectively. The former highlights various facts in the village of Calangute, while the latter, rendered in a lighter vein, speaks of a cook who instructs no to enjoy food from hotels and restaurants.
Neville Pereira has done a commendable job with regard to music, cinematography, editing and recording. Manfa art department has worked upon the design aspect.
