BICHOLIM: Elections to the Bicholim Municipal Council (BMC) on Saturday recorded 87.96% polling with 5588 males and 5822 females exercising their franchise.
Earlier in the day, few turned out to cast their votes but later voting gained momentum as many were seen in queues outside the booth.
The entire election process passed off peacefully and massive rush was witnessed at some booths in the evening.
Speaker and Bicholim MLA, Rajesh Patnekar, who voted in the evening expressed happiness on the voter turnout.
“In democratic set up every five years people get a chance to vote and here we have got this opportunity. People have voted in large number and we are happy,” he said.
Former MLA Naresh Sawal said, “There is a friendly environment in Bicholim. There are 14 wards, but we have fielded 12 candidates and maximum number of candidates will win.”
As per the ward-wise voting, 261 people voted in ward 1, 722 in ward 2, 846 in ward 3, 612 in ward 4, 808 in ward 5, 730 in ward 6, 681 in ward 7, 1016 in ward 8, 881 in ward 9, 984 in ward 10, 903 in ward 11, 720 in ward 12, 918 in ward 13 and 966 in ward 14.
