Deeply pained at the manner hierarchy is targeting senior Congmen: Deshprabhu

Jitendra Deshprabhu, senior Congress leader, though being part of the disciplinary committee, said he is unaware of the suspension of senior party leader Aleixo Sequeira. He spoke to Herald on his reactions to the suspension and the state of the beleaguered Congress.

Herald: As part of the disciplinary committee were you aware of Aleixo Sequeira’s suspension?
Jitendra Deshprabhu: There was a meeting called less than a week ago. But I did not attend as I was out of town.
There was no agenda. But I was not aware of his suspension. Herald: What do you feel about this? Jitendra Deshprabhu:
So sorry that this is happening. I cannot believe that these things are happening in the Congress. I am deeply pained at the manner in which our own hierarchy is targeting seniormost Congress people. We are mature politicians and deserve much more political understanding for the manner in which they have or have not fulfilled their political commitments
towards the electorates or people at large. Herald: Do you feel this will affect the party as a whole?
Jitendra Deshprabhu: I can’t answer that as I don’t know how the party executive will react to this. I am worried about the electorate, that is the whole of Goa. This is bad for the electorate. Herald: What do you feel is the state of the
party as of now? Jitendra Deshprabhu: Congress will have to gear up and increase its membership not just amongst the workers.
But the leadership also
should be rejuvenated
right from grassroots
level. People have left
because of various issues.
The Congress will
have to convince them
to re-join the party and
the leadership has to be
aggressive in this campaign.
Herald: How do you think the party can be revived?
Jitendra Deshprabhu: The young and willful
will not be able to convince the electorate.
They are mostly involved in rhetoric or negativism.
Many of the senior people will have to be involved
to bring about a transformation with
maturity and acceptability among the electorate.
We cannot just make ourselves seen
through the media. There has to be proper organization
too.
