Goan Overseas Association of Victoria stages May Queen Ball

Nhe Goan Overseas Association of Victoria (GOAV) Inc. celebrated its May Queen ball on   May 15th, 2021. The large gathering of Goans here in Victoria were treated to some great music by the band in attendance  Next Generation and DJ Ben.

Ms Sarita D’Souza was crowned the May Queen 2021, while the first runner up was Kath Mae and second runner up was  Janelle D’Souza. Prizes were sponsored by The Black Sparrow – Howqua, VDG Lawyers, Brighton East Dental Clinic and Dorellis

Three judges for the selection of the May Queen, Latha Srinivassan, Director and Admin Head of Bollywood Dance School Australia, which is the largest in Australia, Haffsah Bilal (Lajeen Artistry) Owner and creative director at Lajeen Boutique Salon and Mimi Leonard, Mrs Sri Lanka Australia 2019 and Mrs South Asia Australia 2020 had a difficult task on hand to judge and select the winner. Earlier Bibian Lobo welcomed the gathering and hosted the event.  President of Goan Overseas Association of Victoria Gerard Lobo spoke about the community work carried out by the Goan diaspora in Victoria. A long time migrant and editor of The Global Goan Magazine  Salus Correia was recognised for his community service in promoting Goenkarponn across the globe, also recognised was Frankey Fernandes, for his Konkani news bulletin Susegad Danpaar.  The catering  of sumptuous Goan meals was provided by Lia and Filipe Dias originally hailing from Siolim in North Goa.

The GOAV committee has decided to donate every dollar from the raffle money towards helping the people in Goa affected by COVID.  “So many of our family and friends and the community in general have been unable to work due to the pandemic crisis, as a result of which they are unable to put food on the table’ Stated Henry D’Souza, Hon. Secretary GOAV.
