Over the last few days massive trucks are seen leaving with stinking garbage from the plant which is supposedly going to cement plants. The plant operators are desperately trying to clear the dump of garbage that is outside the plant before a court appointed inspection is carried out.
It can be recalled that that a member of the High Court appointed monitoring Committee, Dean D’cruz who has been visiting the Saligao plant and found that it was not working to its capacity had earlier told Herald that there was no control over the running of the plant.
“The Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF) waste is supposed to be ten per cent of the garbage but in this case it is 30 per cent. They are unable to furnish details of the cement plants where the RDF is being sent to. We do not even know if it is going anywhere. How are they planning to expand the plant at this rate? I have made several written complaints to the Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) over the last few months.
Another local on condition of anonymity pointed out that recently several trucks are seen going out with untreated waste.
“Every day so many trucks are going out with the waste from the plant. Looks like they are taking the waste to dump it elsewhere. I really don’t know if cement plants are accepting so much of RDF. I wonder if the waste going out is really RDF or untreated waste being cleared in a hurry,” he said.
