The newly built market complex and two buildings having residential quarters situated in the Ponda Mamlatdar Complex premises are lying idle.
The people want that the building having the residential quarters of Directorate of Health Services (DHS) staff to be demolished as it has become weak.
According to the locals, the residential quarters were later shifted into the Sub-District Hospital, Ponda.
There are also two government buildings which are in unused state in Ponda. Recently, Revenue Minister Atanasio `Babush’ Monserrate during his visit to Ponda, inspected these buildings and hinted at constructing Revenue Bhavan for Ponda.
The four-storied Ponda market complex which was built more than a decade ago is yet to be made operational. As many as 130 shops were to be auctioned, but till date more than 70 per cent of the building is vacant.
The Ponda Municipal Council Chairperson Ritesh Naik said that the Council is making efforts to operate all the shops in Ponda Market Complex building.
He said the shops on top floors would be used under Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, while shops at lower floor would be auctioned, which will fetch revenue to PMC.
“The shops on Mezzanine floor are run by traditional vendors and businessmen. The PMC is in process to auction rest of the shops and provide all facilities required for conducting business,” Naik said.
