On the birth anniversary of Regina Fernandes, the first woman on the Konkani stage, Tiatr Academy Goa (TAG) presented the ‘Young Achievers Awards 2017’ to Anita S A Fernandes (comedienne Anita) and Broyan Joanita Fernandes (comedian Bryan).
The award consisted of a memento, a citation and a cash burse of Rs 20,000. Since its inception in 2009, TAG annually celebrates the birth anniversary of four major contributors towards the tiatr stage, namely Lucasinho Rebeiro, Rosario Rodrigues, Regina Fernandes and Joao Agostinho Fernandes.
Speaking on the occasion, noted tiatrist Jessie Dias, who was the Chief Guest, recalled the immense contribution made by tiatrists of yesteryears.“But unfortunately,the hard-work of many stalwarts of the Konkani stage was never recognised in the past,” she grieved.
Dias appreciated the efforts put in by TAG to recognise the hard-work put in by young artistes on the tiatr stage and felicitating them. “This initiative will give a morale boost to upcoming tiatrists to put in more efforts and preserve Goan art and culture for posterity,” she added.
After the formal function concluded, Jr Reagan and his troupe entertained the audience with some melodious songs and comic acts. Noted tiatrists Evola, Augusto de Calangute, Evaristo de Arambol, Hortencio and others were part of the troupe.
Vice-president of TAG William Fernandes, member secretary Alexandre Rodrigues, former TAG president Tomazinho Cardozo were also present on the occasion.
