Review:
Mafaldina is a film actress in Mumbai. A sudden increase in her income leads to a lot of gossip and rumours and her husband, Antanv, isn’t happy about it. His parents, Jefri (Anthony Carvalho) and Esporans (Irene Cardozo), and his spinster sister, Therez (Joycelyn Misquita), who have always maintained their stand against this marriage, move from Goa to Mumbai.
Meetings with different directors such as Ramnath (Tukaram Naik), Deepak (Dnyaneshwar Morajkar) make the narrow-minded in-laws more suspicious.
Meanwhile, a neighbour, Alban, falls for the innocent appeal of Thereza. Cook, Jeri (Comedian 64) helps him in winning her over.
Will Antanv’s family members be convinced of Mafaldina’s sincere dedication towards her art? Or will she be looked down upon? When, if at all, does the change of mind and heart come in?
‘Somzonnent Chuk Zali’, a tiatr penned by late Kid Boxer, has been reproduced by Tomazinho Cardozo as part of the noted tiatrist’s birth centenary celebrations. It has a good storyline with sleek direction and a good dose of suspense in the concluding scene. Focus has also been laid on superstitions and beliefs, to a certain extent.
As a film actress, Selza Lopes is quite impressive and expressive in her expression and dialogue. Prasad Mandrekar is supportive in his role. Irene and Anthony look good as guardians. Joycelyn and Shivanand coordinate comfortably in their respective roles. Comedian 64 entertains single-handedly with comedy wrapped in the main plot. Tukaram Naik, Dnyaneshwar Morajkar, Simonia and Shripad Shirodkar are equally supportive. But among all, Tomazinho Cardozo as Karval comes in as a suspense character and unveils the secret quite effectively.
In the category of songs, Tomazinho and Irene Cardozo provide a brief sketch of Kid Boxer in the opening chorus, followed by a solo of Kid Boxer by Sucorro de St Cruz. Anthony San and Maria, Tomazinho and Irene, Sucorro and Joe Rose entertain with duets and a duo respectively. Konkani oldies which include ‘Parki’, ‘Birmotti’, ‘Taxi Driver’ are appealing to the ears.
