Story: Belief in false gods is at its height in the village. Fr Savio (Joe Rose) works towards restoring faith in God. After tragedy strikes, Jaki (Pegado), a non-believer, regains health through prayers from the saintly priest. But is it too late?
Review:
Inas (Joaquim) runs a fishing business, with trawlers and fishermen at his command. When business is at a low ebb, one of his employees, Jacob (Succor de Santa Cruz), suggests that he should follow a blind ritual, which will appease Chandra Swami. Drowning in his debts, Inas agrees, but his wife, Elisa (Sharon), is a staunch believer and discourages him.
Another villager, Baptist (Wilmix), serves as a sacristan and lives with his daughter, Cecil (Sharon). He assists Fr Savio in his priestly duties. But his younger brother Jaki (Pegado) is a follower of Chandra Swami and is willing to go to any extent to fulfil his desires and dreams.
In order to carry out his wicked practices successfully at his residence, Jaki demands the division of the house and goes about with his sinful plans. Fr Savio visits Jaki and showcases the might of his true living God. When tragedy strikes, the saintly priest comes to Jaki’s assistance. As he recovers his health, Jaki turns towards Fr Savio’s teachings.
But will Jaki be a true follower? What are his regrets? Which path does Inas tread on to find success in his business?
F Cardozo’s tiatr ‘Father Savio’ was staged 20 years ago and it had completed 113 shows successfully. The same tiatr is being re-staged with minor changes to the cast. The tiatr highlights the blind belief that prevailed among the people of a village and how Fr Savio tried to bring in the transformation in the community. The goings-on have been well projected in the second half. The scenes introduced in the drama are worth watching.
Joe Rose stands tall in his main role as Fr Savio. He has been ably assisted by Wilmix as the sacristan and aide. Joaquim and Sharon are at ease as a couple belonging to the fishing community. Succor de Santa Cruz as employee, delivers promptly, both in dress code and dialogues. Sharon as Cecil and the daughter of Baptist, looks comfortable in her character. Pegado outshines in his negative role. Osvi Viegas extends good support as a doctor.
Reema, Jack de Colva, Sally and Saby come together for some laughs. Check the foursome when they plan to cheat each other in business and its outcome.
Renditions by Osvi Viegas, Reema, Rons, Sharon, Jack de Colva, John, Succor de Santa Cruz entertain with their solos, but duets by Wilmix and Sharon receive encores.
