‘Their demand will keep increasing as it is a bigger State’

The matter before Mhadei tribunal is in the final stage and on January 15, Goa will make a written submission before the tribunal and many feel that in sending a letter to the Karnataka BJP the Chief Minister may have weakened the stand of the State. In fact, observers feel Karnataka has completely failed to prove their case before tribunal and Goa is on a strong footing. HERALD:   Do you think the letter given by Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar is linked with the Karnataka’s political situation?
RAJENDRA KERKAR: The letter which is written by Parrikar when Karnataka assembly elections are ahead is clearly indicated that it is completely politically motivated and thus it will be harmful for Goa and the interest of Goa. Now the matter before Mhadei tribunal is also in final stage, on January 15, 2018 State will make written submission before tribunal and making such acts by Chief Minister may weaken the stand of State.
HERALD:  Do you think Karnataka seriously need water for drinking purpose?
RAJENDRA KERKAR: For the need of drinking purpose Karnataka claims they are diverting the water and taking 150 kms from Kankumbi to Hubali Dharwad whereas there is a tributary of Malaprabha which is very closer to Hubali that can fulfil need of drinking if proper project comes. There is no need to take water from Mhadei to Hubali Dharwad. Goa Government has cleared the stand before tribunal how the rivers in Karnataka has excess of water.
HERALD:  You mean to say Karnataka is misguiding Goa over water issue?
RAJENDRA KERKAR:There was no need to go to tribunal if government wanted to give water for drinking purpose. Now crores of rupees were spent and now deciding to give water for drinking purpose, I personally feel it is very wrong.
HERALD: What will be the impact on Goa if water is given for drinking purpose to Karnataka?
RAJENDRA KERKAR: It has no clarity over how much water they want, but their need may change time to time as many of the new projects are coming. Their demand will keep increasing as it is a bigger State.
HERALD:  How strong was case of Goa before tribunal?
RAJENDRA KERKAR:Karnataka completely failed to prove their case before tribunal and Goa is very strong. Karnataka has not even mentioned before tribunal about the need of drinking water. I need not need to say much on this case as everyone is aware that case before tribunal is in favour of Goa.
