Review:
Rio, along with his wife Samenca and his brothers, Mark and Elrich, peacefully live under one roof. Elrich pursues his engineering studies and has plans to work on a solar vehicle.
Wealthy Tony (Tony) is against his sister Zinel’s relationship with Mark, due to the latter’s financial condition. After much insistence and on the condition that Mark will part with his ancestral property, Tony agrees.
Zinel’s entry into the family leads to various demands and bitter ties. Initially, Zinel and Mark coax Elrich to move to London for better prospects. But Rio’s strong convictions convince Elrich to stay back.
Taking advantage of Rio’s assurance to help Elrich pursue his studies and excel in his career, Zinel and Mark work out another plan and succeed in taking it to fruition. In the bargain, Elrich becomes a scapegoat.
On the other hand, Samenca is gripped by cancer and Rio is ready to go to any extent to assist his wife in her ailment. He goes as far as taking a loan on property papers and risking his life. Dispite their plotting and planning, things unexpectedly move in the opposite direction and go against Mark and Zinel. How does Rio react when he realises that his brothers have betrayed his trust? Will the ancestral property be auctioned? Who wins at the end and how?
Mario Menezes’ tiatr ‘Goem Konn Samballtolo’ speaks about the latest craze among Goans of deserting secure jobs in their homeland and seeking greener pastures abroad. It also throws light on the empty and false promises made by builders while purchasing ancestral properties from Goans.
Mario and Jessica do justice to their respective roles. Franky and Francisco display enough confidence while executing their unique characters. Rosy is in command in her negative role. Brief entries by Tony, Bobet and John Hatts help showcase the talent on stage.
Joana, Michael and Alwyn form a perfect comical trio and infuse laughter into the tiatr with their body language and dialogue delivery.
A collection of songs by Michael, Mario, Lawry, Tony, Joana, duets by Tony and Jessica, Lawry and Rosy, a duo by Franky and Francisco carry varied messages. But a quartet by Tony, Joana, Bobet and Michael and a trio by Tony, Joana and Michael receive encores.
