According to local police, the duo, David Driham alias Dudu and Yaniv Benaim alais Atala were not seen since January 2015 in the village of Anjuna but the local inquiries have revealed that they have been spotted a few days back. Presently, Dudu is out of station and Atala is in.
DUDU TODAY
The villagers of Praiswado-Anjuna informed that Dudu got married to his girlfriend Zarina one and half year back in Ukraine. Zarina along with Ayala, sister of Dudu are a deadly duo who exposed police sub-inspector Sunil Gudler selling drugs in 2011, which sparked off a series of events which led to a full fledged probe into the police, politician and drug dealer nexus.
Ayala along with her husband and four kids have also settled down in Anjuna, with the children enrolled in a school run by a foreigner.
Dudu, who was first arrested in 2008 by the Mumbai police in an NDPS case and later arrested by Goa Police is now staying on the coast of Anjuna in a house of Harmalkar. According to the bail conditions, both alleged accused in NDPS cases should refrain themselves from being visited at the coastal village till the court disposes the cases against them.
“We were keeping track of them, but since January they have not been seen in the village. Our police are also scared to go for inquiries with them as they may level allegations of extortion and bribery,” said a cop from Anjuna police station.
Anjuna police are not even aware of whether the duo have valid driving licenses to drive vehicles in India, and do not know if Dudu and Atala have valid agreements of the houses where they are presently residing. Yet they live within 700 meters of the police station.
According to sources, Dudu is presently active in Anjuna and is involved in four restaurants in Anjuna and Vagator. Shahid is one of his partners in Anjuna who is wanted by the Rajasthan police, it is learnt.
ATALA, IN A BUBBLE OF HIS OWN
Atala also stays in Anjuna and operates a club called ‘Bubbles’, which on paper is owned by one Mrs Bhosle but actual operations are under Atala. For this season, it is closed for customers but it has been seen that some foreigners are still daily customers at night. Atala is also notorious in the locality for petty fights with Goans. He recently damaged the car of a local for damaging his sign board due to negligence. The case reached the Anjuna police station but the police covered it up after the owner of the car settled with cash.
In the village, they are the lords. No one talks too much about them and locals in hushed whispers say they can’t touch them. “They have a close contact with everybody, or else how are they surviving in Goa,” one of the locals asked.
