Story: Javed (Shantaram), an ISIS fighter, is involved with a Catholic girl, Myra (Myra). Will she succeed in bringing in the necessary change in her lover?
Review:
Javed, who lives with his father, Abu (Santan Pegado), is mostly involved in terrorist activities. Their sole aim and intention is to destroy all other religions, including Christianity, while only allowing their own to flourish.
interestingly, Javed falls in love with Myra, whose father is a choir master. He introduces her to his father. Abu explains everything to Myra and tells her that she will have to give up her religion in order to become his son’s life partner.
When Abu instructs Myra not to speak about Christ, she makes all efforts to convince her future father-in-law as well as her fiancé that there are several references made about Christ in their holy book. She also provides the exact passage and quotes them.
But will Abu and Javed be convinced after Myra’s explanation? Will the duo stop terrorist activities? What is Myra’s fate amidst all threats and tribulations? Who turns out victorious at the end?
Ives Tavares’s tiatr ‘Fott Uloinaka Sot Uloi’ focuses on various terrorist activities carried out across India by various outfits, with specific mention made about persecution of Catholics, priests and nuns, and the desecration of churches and statues. It also highlights their future plans globally.
But whatever has been projected on stage has no relevance to Goa and Goans specifically as terrorist activities are not in existence in Goa, with the prevalence of peace and harmony among the people of different religions in the state.
The stage sets, besides projection on screen, need to be commended. Efforts have also been made to avoid standing and hanging mikes on stage. But powerful collar mikes for all the artistes, including the singers, would have served the purpose and made a big difference.
Among the artistes, Santan Pegado stands tall and robust in his role and Shantaram as his son does full justice as the ISIS fighter. Myra as the Catholic plays a convincing role, ably supported by Milagres de Ganapoga as her father and Edward and Felix as priests. As police inspector, Valentina delivers well. As child artiste, Joyson, wins the hearts of the audience.
The comedy has not been linked to the main plot, but presented separately with road scenes. In the comic acts, Pitush, Rhea and Rosario form a comical trio for some laughter pills on stage.
In the category of songs, Myra entertains with the opening chorus, followed by solos by Elvis Mascarenhas, Milagres de Ganapoga, Nazario Pinto, Cielda and Edward. Newcomers Joyson, Rhea and Sydel with their solos deserve appreciation. A duet by Elvis and Cielda carries weightage. But duo, trio, quartet and choral, which are basic elements, are missed in the drama.
Those involved in stage sets, besides projection on screen, have done a commendable job and deserve kudos.
