Cuncolim bus stand built by the State government at a cost of Rs 3.5 crore was inaugurated in 2007. In fact, the structural design of Cuncolim bus stand depicting two dolphins jumping in sea won the Aga Khan Award for its architecture at the national level in 2012.
A bus time-table is displayed and there is a public address system giving updates of various routes bus timings for the convenience of commuters.
Almost 15 years have passed, but this bus stand is yet to be fully utilised. The opening of the Goa Bagayatdar’s departmental store is attracting people to the bus stand.
The inter-State buses and some private buses plying from Margao to Karwar and vice versa are not entering the bus stand. Some years back the KTCL management introduced pay parking for vehicles in a bid to fetch revenues. The toilets pay facility is facing water shortage.
There is ample space for buses to park. During last monsoon, the roof was damaged and is yet to be repaired as shop owners have been complaining leakage inside their shops.
