WATT THE FOLKS FEEL OF THE SHOCK THERAPY

Herald gets to feel the pulse of the citizens who sweat it out every year before the monsoons hoping that they will get a better deal when the downpour starts. But it is the same ordeal they are subjected to year after year. The saga continues...

Power cuts have been occurring too often this summer. We understand if there is a frequent breakdown during the monsoons. The Electricity Department should ensure well in advance that consumers are not put through such hardships
—Shoba Sardesai, Caranzalem resident
As I go to Colva very often, I can tell you that the power situation in Guirdolim is better than in Colva.
— Darwin Cardoso, Guirdolim
There are a number of power failures for about 10 minutes a day and it is utterly irritating
— Ceasar D’Silva, Margao
There is not much problem if the power goes off  during office hours, as we have a generator. Also after a hard day’s work any power cuts during evening hours is a trouble for us as we are then busy cooking.
— Aarti Naik, Siolim
Power failures have become a daily routine these days and it’s very irritating more so with the grimy weather. We have late night shocks when the fans and ACs go off during power cuts.
— Kapil Naik, Mapusa
Power cuts should be done in a routine manner. They should be announced and mentioned in the papers so that we can take precautions. The power department should also look into the issue of the streetlights glowing during the day.
—Siddesh Mandrekar, Mandrem
Monsoon or no monsoon, power cuts in Aldona are a usual thing. The Aldona sub-station seems to have no control over the situation. The Aldona MLA had earlier inaugurated a lot of transformers but the power woes have not been resolved till date.
— Joseph, Aldona
Except for a few rare occasions, there is no major power problems. However, currently frequent power cuts are being witnessed due to maintenance work and that too for long hours. It’s getting unbearable in this heat.
— Umesh Naik, Ponda
I guess the Electricity Department is the worst department to deal with. Nothing is done on time …Recently, last week when there was a failure at Thivim feeder in which 110 KV line tripped and caused power failure, the department said it was caused due to thunder and powerful winds… If this is the case now what can people expect in June?
—Raju Tambat, Taleigao
There is no proper work schedule maintained by the department. The power supply is snapped with no prior intimation to consumers. The abrupt power supply in the mornings affects the business community very hard but it hardly matters to the power department. With temperatures soaring, the load and demand get hiked and the fluctuations in Sanguem bring untold misery to us.
— Kevin Mascarenhas, Sanguem
The power situation in Bicholim is satisfactory, but you never know what to expect once the downpour starts. We have already seen how erratic the power supply becomes once the rains start and inspite of making several calls to the department, our pleas fail to evoke any response
— Gauri Chodankar, Bicholim
The operations at Vasco railway station were severely affected during first pre-monsoon  showers reported few days ago. We had to put all load on the generators for power requirements for hours together to keep up to operational needs. Such power cuts should be reduced
— PC Chacko, Station Manager, Vasco Railway Station
The power department must wake up and start maintenance work sooner so that there are no shocks for us. Even during the recent rain, the power supply was crippled. Going by the current pace of the department, it seems that they are way behind the asking rate. We can only hope and pray that the rains are not that harsh on us. Given the present day scenario, the department has to do a lot to maintain the power supply during the rains.
— Preetam Keluskar, social activist, Vasco
