10th Goa River Marathon named ‘Run for Green Goa’ marathon

PANJIM: The Vasco Sports Club will organise the 10th edition of the Goa River Marathon (GRM) which has been entitled as the ‘Run for Green Goa’ marathon.
This was disclosed by Team Vasco Sports Club, the organisers of the event at a media conference held in the city on Friday. 
Speaking at a media conference in the city on Friday, Rakesh Unny, secretary, Vasco Sports club informed media persons that the organisers had chosen ‘Runfor Green Goa’ theme to commemorate the 10th edition of this popular marathon.
“There will be zero use of single use plastic and plastic items in the event. The water and electrolyte stations will be called ‘Filling Stations’ and runners have been requested to carry their own bottles which will be refilled at these stations. Racer kits will also be distributed in cloth bags,” Unny said.
According to Unny, there will be a special counter at the sports expo where tailors will convert old race t-shirts into grocery and vegetable shopping bags. “We are requesting runners to visit the expo with their old t-shirts and walk away with cloth shopping bags,” Unny said.
Vasco Sports Club president Nitin Bandekar who also addressed the media persons said that online registrations can be done on the www.goarivermarathon.com website.
“As many as 2,800 participants from 21 states of India have already registered for the competitive full marathon, half marathon and 10km races and registrations for the 5km fun run event are also in full swing. International athletes from 12 countries have registered for the event, while athletes from African nations of Kenya and Ethiopia have already contacted us seeking registration details,” Bandekar said.
 According to Bandekar, the organisers had changed the race venue to provide ideal race conditions. “All races will start and finish at the Chicalim Panchayat ground, next to the Chicalim Panchayat office building, but the route for each event will be kept the same,” Bandekar said.  
This year’s 10th GRM has a total prize money of Rs 7 lakhs across all races.
