PANJIM: An enormous fleet of 400 cars/SUVs and 100 buses will be put into service during the Lusofonia Games for transporting athletes, technical officials, ACOLOP and LUGOG officials, media, volunteers and spectators.
The transport mode will be creatively branded for the Games, according to Arun Dessai, Director for the Department of Transport, who addressed journalists at an insipid press conference in the presence of  Sandip Jacques, Executive Director SAG and Joint CEO of the Lusofonia Games.
The fleet of vehicles being put into service for the Lusofonia Games will include branded vehicles, disability friendly services and comfortable shuttle services for spectators to and fro, from competition venues.
Dessai, briefing on the operational aspects of the Games, shared details on the fleet operations and transport arrangements being made for officials and delegates during the Games.
Detailed arrangements have been made for ticketed spectators to be shuttled to the competition venues and back. Two central transport hubs, one each in North Goa (ground opposite ETDC near All India Radio (AIR) at Bambolim) and South Goa (open   ground in front of Government Multipurpose Higher Secondary School, Borda) have been identified. The dedicated shuttle services will be made available every half hour from Panjim and Margao KTC bus stands.
The fleet of vehicles will also include specially modified disability — friendly buses, cars, SUVs, and mini buses.
In the past months, the Transport FA team has been involved in the conceptualization, planning and execution of all game time operations of car fleets, route planning for individual sites and identification of parking spaces to ensure the best possible services to officials, players, spectators and individuals involving in the organisation of the 3rd Lusofonia Games that will be held over the period of 12 days from January 18 to 29, 2014.
