MAPUSA: A two-goal blitz from Aaren D’Silva helped FC Goa register a 2-1 win over Calangute Association Sports Club in the Goa Professional League played at Duler Stadium here on Thursday.
Calangute’s Jirjar Terang who made his debut on Thursday’s match put his team ahead in the 36th minute. Aaren D’Silva netted a brace late in the game to give full three points to Young Gaurs.
The beachside lads dictated terms for the next half an hour and attacked the rival citadel time and again. Lalhmangaihsanga timely intercepted Kouame Junior Kossonou low cross inside the penalty box.
Finally Calangute tasted success in the 36th minute. Kouame Junior squared the ball to a well positioned Jirjar Terang who finished clinically.
Young Gaurs should have levelled terms in the 45th minute but Inamdar failed to score from a goal mouth melee.
Calangute coach Valentine brought his second foreign signing from Liberia Mark Junior from the bench at the start of second session which further accelerated the tempo of the match.
U-20 Chaitan Dabholkar stiff grounder travelled just past the goal post.
Calangute received a jolt as the match progressed with defender Nickson Castanha being replaced due to an injury and minutes later with the sending off Jirjar Terang for second booking in the 79th minute.
In the next minute a delightful cross by Sarineo Fernandes was superbly headed into the far corner by Aaren 1-1.
Young Gaurs went all out in search of the winning goal and succeeded in the
88th minute where Aaren was at the far post, to nod in a Deeshank Kunkalikar cross from the left flank, 2-1.
