PANJIM: Aaryan Naik of Jyan Vikas High School, Porvorim and Vidhi Gawde of SFX High School, Mapusa, won the boy’s and girl’s U-9 Bardez Taluka Level Chess Championship, organized by Bardez Taluka Chess association at Nature Group Chess Academy, Ganeshpuri Mapusa, recently.
The event was organized for selecting the boy’s and girl’s U-9 Bardez Taluka team for the U-9 State Chess Championship.
A total of 32 players participated in the tournament. The first five winners in each category were awarded cash prizes and trophies sponsored by Vishwas Pilankar of Mapusa.
The other winners are: Boys – Keenana Coutinho (Mater Dei Institution, Saligao), Varun Vengurlekar (New Goa High School, Mapusa), Kavish Arolkar (New Goa High School, Mapusa), Vinay Sutar, (Holy Family High School, Porvorim), Aryan Arolkar (Saraswat High School, Mapusa), Nihal Palyekar (Saraswat High School, Mapusa), Sholk Dhulapkar (Little Toddlers Nursery School, Mapusa)
Girls – Sayuri Naik (Divine Mercy, Mapusa), Sampatti Vaigankar (Dattaram Mantrawadi High School, Mapusa), Tia Korgaonkar (Sharda Mandir School, Panjim), Aashma Desai (Blooming Dale Primary School, Mapusa), Sruchi Asnodkar (Chubby Cheeks High School, Porvorim), Saishka Gawndalkar (Sharda Mandir School, Panjim), Avani Marathe (Saraswat High School , Mapusa).
All the sixteen winners from boys and girls will represent Bardez Taluka in the Under 9 State Chess Championship to be held at Savordem, from March 8-9.
Avinash Malvankar was the Chief Arbiter of the tournament. Vishwas Pilankar, President of the Bardez Taluka Chess Association and Pravin Barde President of Nature Group Chess Academy both gave away the prizes to the winners. Tournament Coordinator Sachin Arolkar gave vote of thanks.
