FATORDA: ABC United defeated Gunners 6-3 to win the men’s category Goa Futsal Cup, organised by Futsal Association of Goa, played at Don Bosco futsal ground, on Sunday.
Hanslem Furtado scored four goals while Delbert Fernandes and Milleon Barreto scored each for the winners, while Jasper Pereira scored a hat-trick for the Gunners.
ABC United got the breakthrough in the first minute itself when Hanslem Furtado placed his soft header in the back of the nets to give ABC United an early 1-0 lead.
Being one goal down, Gunners tried hard to push for the equaliser by displaying some good passing with Sanford Rodrigues being denied by the woodwork in the 4th minute.
On the other side, ABC United tried to extend their lead but were denied by Arjores Amor and Cleos Barretto of the Gunners. In the 9th minute, Jasper Pereira scored the equaliser for the Gunners wherein he placed a perfect shot off a free kick into the back of the nylons. The game then picked up speed as both teams tried hard to find the lead.
Jerry Rodrigues’ quick passing with Jasper Pereira of the Gunners was well cleared by Milleon Barreto of ABC United. In the 15th minute, Delbert Fernandes scored for ABC United who placed his fine shot into the goal after a brilliant counter-attack to give his side the lead again. ABC United went into the breather with a 2-1 lead over Gunners.
Moving over, Jasper Pereira levelled things up for the Gunners to get them back into the game but their joy was short lived as ABC United scored in the next minute through Milleon Barreto giving them again a lead.
Cleos Barretto shot straight on target for the Gunners but the ABC keeper was on alert to send it out of play. Hanslem scored another for ABC United again after he made a swift move leaving the Gunners shocked and taking the score to 4-2. Two minutes later, Hanslem completed his hat-trick by scoring from the spot. Jasper Pereira pulled one down for Gunners who completed his hat-trick as well.
But nothing was stopped Hanslem as he netted another in the final minute for ABC United taking the final score line to 6-3 and ensuring his side clinched the trophy.
The winners were awarded Rs 75,000 by chief guest Curtorim MLA Reginaldo Laurenco in the presence of FAG president Benjamin Silva and other dignitaries.
