Abieta earned the honours for her State in the 14 to 15 years age group black belt category by getting the better of Deepika Srivastava from Madhya Pradesh.
Apart from Abieta’s historic feat, two other kartekas also did the State proud. Pallavi Shingarajula won the silver medal in the 16 to 17 years age group event while teammate Simran Batham had to be content with a bronze in the senior category of 18 years and above black belt.
The gold medal victory of Abieta and that of Pallavi (silver) and Simran (bronze) from the Goan contingent of 18 karatekars is of significance as the competition was tough and of top quality with 29 states from around India participating.
