Adil’s double takes Dempo SC atop

Golden Eagles now have 31 points from 14 matches while Sao Miguel have 3 points from 15 matches

MAPUSA: Dempo Sports Club climbed to the top of the league table after their 3-1 victory over Clube Sao Miguel De Taleigao in the GFA’s Goa Pro League match played at Duler Stadium, Mapusa, on Monday.
In their first leg encounter, Clube Sao Miguel de Taleigao managed to hold the Golden Eagles 1-1.
The Golden Eagles now have 31 points from 14 matches while Clube Sao Miguel de Taleigao have 3 points from 15 matches.
In a one way traffic –Dempo had the first clear look at the rival goal in the early 3rd minute of play when Anthony D’Souza saw his blistering shot from the top of the 18-yard box bang the Sao Miguel de Taleigao woodwork.
Minutes into the match Felix Odili Chidi and Kapil Hoble saw their headers from close range miss the target by a whisker.
In the 15th minute of play Adil Khan sent a perfect pass to Felix who charged into the  Sao Miguel de Taleigao danger zone but failed to aim goal-wards from handshaking distance to the dismay of the Dempo supporters.
At the half hour mark Dempo Meldon D’Silva was found guilty of handling the ball on the edge of the 18-yard box by referee Sainath Haldankar who signalled for a direct free-kick where Jerose Oliveira saw his strike sail just over the horizontal bar.
Minutes before the halftime whistle the Golden Eagles keeper Priyant Kumar Singh did well to get his hands to Sherwin Lobo’s curling free-kick.
Crossing over, Dempo tried hard and managed to take the lead in the 54th minute of play when Felix Odili Chidi got hold of the ball from Mario Mascarenhas and unleashed a fierce grounder which had no answer from the Taleigao custodian, 1-0.
After some midfield play the Golden Eagles  consolidated their lead through Adil Khan who nodded in Anthony D’Souza’s corner kick, 2-0.
Couple of minutes later Adil scored his brace when his long range effort landed into the far corner of the Clube Sao Miguel de TaleigaoTaleigao nets, 3-0.
Clube Sao Miguel de Taleigao managed to score a consolation goal when Sherwin Lobo set up Gopi Gad who after making his way past the Dempo Sports Club defenders unleashed a curling right footed strike which ended into the Dempo goal, 1-3.
Moments before the final whistle, Sherwin Lobo was given marching orders by referee Sainath for abusive language.
