MAPUSA, JAN 23
Agasaim Youth Club’s Rudy Godinho struck a dramatic 92nd minute equaliser to spark outrage from Young Boys of Tonca fans who claimed it was off-side, as they were held to a 2-2 draw in GFA’s 2nd Division encounter at Dr. Remigio Pinto ground, Taleigao on Sunday. Young Boys led 2-0 at the interval.
Ruddy netted a controversial brace in the last four minutes for Agasaim. His first goal was cleared by a Tonca defender’s hand on the goalline. The referee checked with the linesman to see if the ball had completely crossed the line before awarding the goal.
“Both goals should have been disallowed,” claimed Tonca coach Nazareth D’Silva speaking to Herald. “The first ball did not cross the line. The referee should have sent our defender off for handling the ball and given the opposition a penalty and as for the second goal it was clearly off-side,” Nazareth added.
The Tonca management have lodged a complaint with the officials, but this wasn’t before the vulnerable match officials made a quick getaway to the referee’s room, where they were chased, as a few Tonca fans had leaped over the perimeter fence, knocked over the fourth official’s table and aggressively demanded answers to the decisions.
Tonca dominated the first half proceedings. Young Malcolm Fernandes played well in defence, clearing the ball on the ground and in the air at every opportunity.
Agasaim were sloppy in midfield, and allowed the two central midfielders who were not the quickest, to move forward and score. In the second half the changes in midfield gave them more attacking options.
In the 29th minute, Vilroy D’Souza superbly volleyed into the goal from just outside box to give Tonca the lead.
Eight minutes later, Elvis Fernandes kept his shot low as he beat the rival goalkeeper inside a crowded box.
After the change of ends, Tonca continued to boss the game in midfield.
As the teams started to tire in midfield, both made changes and by the last ten minutes the teams had used up all their substitutes to replace tired legs.
In the 88th minute Rudy lifted the ball over the outrushing goalkeeper for the first goal. Two minutes into injury time the ball found its way over to Rudy who slotted past the goalkeeper for the equaliser.
