RAIA: Agxem Sports Club secured a convincing 2-1 victory over Unjirim United, in the 9-a-side inter-ward football tournament organized by Sporting Club Virabhat, played at St Alex Church ground, Curtorim, on Wednesday.
The match began on a promising note, with both teams vying for an early lead in the first quarter. Clifton Fernandes missed a crucial scoring opportunity for Unjirim United. Shortly after, Nickson Castanha of Agxem Sports Club scored from close range, leaving the Unjirim goalkeeper with no chance. At halftime, Agxem held a 1-0 lead.
In the second half, Unjirim’s Alister had a powerful shot punched away for a corner, while Agxem extended their lead through Michael Paes, making it 2-0. Unjirim’s Floyd Antao, fed by Niclau, skillfully navigated past the defense and goalkeeper to place the ball in the far corner of the net, reducing the deficit. Joval Martin of Agxem then provided a through pass to Salviton Fernandes, who failed to hit the target. In the dying minutes, Unjirim United missed a golden opportunity to level the score.
