RAIA: Agxem Sports Club clinched the Roque Fernandes memorial 9-a-side football trophy defeating United Club Unjirim 1-0 in the final organised by Fondegal Sports Club, at the St Alex Church ground, Curtorim, recently.
Both the teams played the match on the fast pace showing their determination and skills in front of large crowd and had equal opportunity to score.
The all-important goal came from the boots of Michael Paes of Agxem Sports Club in the first session of play. In second session, United Club Unjirim missed the opportunity to level the terms, while Agxem Sports Club missed the opportunities to increase the tally till the final whistle.
Agxem Sports Club rode on the first half goal to take home the winners’ trophy.
Curtorim MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco was the chief guest and gave away the prizes in the presence of Fr Manuel Dias, club officials and other dignitaries.
