MARGAO: All India Football Federation’s Assistant Secretary Anil Kamat expressed serious concern over the preparation of the new turf at Nehru Stadium, Fatorda.
Kamat along with former AIFF Secretary Alberto Coalco, GFA member Schubert Furtado, Director of Sports and Youth Affairs V. M. Prabhudessai, Project Director Narayan and Stadium Manager Guru Vernekar inspected the play field on Friday morning, where major renovation work is going on for the Lusofonia Games.
“The ground is in a bad state. There’s no sufficient grass and the pitch is very bad, it needs lot of grass, this is not satisfactory,” explained Kamat in anguish.
Kamat who has to report on the ground conditions and other facilities to the Federation and AFC also visited the Tilak Maidan, Vasco and was truly satisfied on the maintenance works of the ground.
“It’s much better here and there will be no problems with firm grass pitch,” stated Kamat.
The AIFF assistant secretary stated that the player’s dressing rooms of Nehru Stadium are getting ready and with the works still in progress but his major worry is the ground condition.
Despite uncertainty, the SAG officials told him the ground will be ready by December. But Kamat was not convinced by the assurance and said that he will meet the Lusofonia CEO Keshav Chandra on Saturday to discuss the matter.
