PANJIM: Ajit Ujwal Gauns Desai from Quepem thrashed his fellow local Prasad Patil 15-13, 8-15, 9-15 to clinch the men’s singles title in the 1st All Goa Lions badminton tournament organized by Lions Club of Avedem-Paroda, at Government sports complex, Borimol, Quepem.
The shuttlers created some sharp angled strokes and picked up gaps to keep the Sunday crowd cheering.
In the men’s doubles event, Dr Sandeep Fowker from Margao partnered Ayub C K to clinch title by upsetting Ponda lads Amey Miringker and Viraj Sawant 16-21, 19-21.
In all, 36 shuttlers from across Goa participated in the 5-day tournament.
Region Chairperson of Lions International District 317-C Dr Francisco Almeida, who was the chief guest, distributed the trophies and cash awards.
Earlier, Club President Adv. Peter John Alphonso welcomed and Secretary Nevil Alphonso later proposed the vote of thanks.
Treasurer Avinash Prabhudesai compered. Irwin Braganza from Quepem officiated the matches.
