CHINCHINIM: Akash Saroj from Sanvordem bagged the first place in above 18 boys category at the 2kms road race organised by Peity Mascarenhas in memory of Brenen Mascarenhas, at Chinchinim, recently. Vijay Moraskar (Benaulim) and Anish Naik(Bali) finished second and third respectively.
In the girls section, Lovenda Fernandes (Velim), Nisha Muzavar (Margao) and Mehtab Muzavar (Margao) were the first three winners.
In the U-16 boys category, Alister Menezes, Prajwal Zuvatkar and Livan Clemente were the winners while Clency Miranda, Scemy Rodrigues and Razya Pereira finished as the first three winners in the girls category.
Sharmila Mendes (Chinchinim) was the lone athlete in the women’s section. In the senior citizen category, Sudhakar Naik (Sanvordem) took the first place, while Leo Cardoz (Taleigao) and Guilherme Rebello (Benaulim) finished at second and third place.
Chief guest Fr Jose Antonio Da Costa, parish priest of Chinchinim Church, gave away the prizes to the winners in the presence of Elvis Gomes, former Goa Football Association president and other dignitaries. In total, 117 athletes participated.
