Akash, Pragati, Babu, Ayan triumph

PANJIM: Akash Agarwadekar (Assonora) and Pragati Garg (Bambolim) won the 21-km open runs for men and women respectively at Goa Tourism Nuron Rotary Rain Run 2023, Sunday.

Babu Gaonkar (Sanguem) and Ayan Soares (18) from Margao, emerged champions in the 10-km open category event for men and women categories respectively. 

Agarwadekar clocked 1h 22m 49s, Garg timed 2h 6m 34s. Babu   37 m 23 s. Ayan 50m 0.8s,

Over 2,000 participated in the event from Bambolim athletic stadium to Miramar circle and back. 

“The runners demonstrated remarkable determination and ran with utmost dedication,” said Avinash Singh Parmar, chairman and spokesperson of Rotary Rain Run. 

Recognised as a ‘certified measured course’ by World Athletics, a global sports governing body, in collaboration with the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races, the event was assisted by Indian army and navy personnel.  

The event also served as a fundraising initiative for ‘Prakash Cancer Aid Project,’ an organisation dedicated to promoting women’s health. 

The warm-up session for the runs consisted of a yoga session, a lively Zumba session. Lavina Soares performed live.

 Brigadier Arvinder Singh Sawhney, commandant, 2 STC and Nasir Bordaswala, district governor, Rotary flagged off the runs.
