PANJIM: Albert Developers Merces beat Chandor Veterans 1-0 in the final to win the Quepem Veterans Seamen Cup, organised by Quepem Seamen, at Borimol Sports Complex ground, Quepem, recenlty.
Albert Developers were favourites to win the final with several experienced players in their ranks, but Chandor Veterans fought gallantly.
Albert Developers exerted pressure from the start through striker Bruno Couthino and Alex Alvares. In the 15th minute Arnald Gomes almost gave Chandor lead but only to see his effort miss the target.
Crossing ends, Albert Developers dominated the play and in the 28th minute winger Aldrin Lobo on receiving a fine pass from Bruno Couthino, scored the all important goal for Albert Developers.
Down by a goal, Chandor regrouped and tried their best to find the equaliser but couldn’t break the resolute Albert defence.
Albert Developers were richer by Rs 30,000 and trophy.
Quepem MLA Chandrakant Babu Kavlekar was the chief guest for the final and gave away the prizes in the presence of Filu D’Costa, John Fernandes and other dignitaries.
