PANJIM: Alcon MCC scored an emphatic 140-run victory over defending champions Geno Sports Club in Goa Cricket Association’s Goa Premier League at GCA Academy ground, Porvorim on Friday.
The match between Salgaocar Cricket Club and Dempo Cricket Club ended in a draw at Sanguem.
Chasing a target of 238 in their second innings, Geno SC were bowled out for 97 runs. Anand Tendulkar (32), Sanath Nevagi (20) and Yogesh Kauthankar (15) were the only batters to get into double digits. Alcon MCC captain and experienced left-arm spinner Darshan Misal picked up five wickets while Vedant Naik took four. Alcon MCC gained six points for the stunning victory.
In the other match, Salgaocar Cricket Club pocketed three points for the first innings lead while Dempo CC earned one point for the tame draw.
Salgaocar were 185/7 in the second innings at the end of third and final day’s play. Ayush Verlekar (64 not out off 118 balls) and Dishank Misquin sparkled with well-constructed half-centuries.
Ayush played elegant shots with eight of them finding boundaries and one six off his bat, entertaining the Salgaocar fans. Dishank showed the ability to stay at the crease with his 51 runs taking 133 balls, including four hits to the fence. Yash Kasvankar contributed 28 runs. Fardin Khan took three wickets while captain Lakshay Garg picked two wickets for Dempo CC.
