Alec, Rafael, Rajnish advance at tennis

PANJIM: Alec Barreto and Rafael Shankar showed their potential winning their respective matches in the Under-14 boys event at TNS Panjim Gymkhana’s all-Goa tennis tournament here on Tuesday. 

Alec exhibited his gritty mindset as he turned the tables on his rival with a fantastic fightback. Down 2-5 against Vihaan Krishnan, Alec fought for his survival first before winning five games on the trot to register a 7-5 victory in the single-set match. Rafael, playing his first competitive match, came out with flying colours as he beat Ashton Lobo 6-3. 

In the 45+ Singles event, Rajnish Dhall, who took up tennis in the last few years, upset one of Goa’s top names, Pralay Bakshi 6-2. However, it was smooth sailing for renowned racket-sport ace Noel Noronha, who brushed off Kishor Metry 6-1.
