VASCO: Ali Amanat of RCC Vasco won the Mormugao Taluka open chess tournament, organised by Mormugao Taluka Chess Association (MTCA) under the aegis of Goa Chess Association and played at Directorate of Sports and Youth, at the DSYA indoor stadium, Chicalim, recently.
In the first round he was upset by Keith Albuquerque but made a comeback by winning the remaining rounds. He beat Utkarsh Ganpule in a draw position in the last round to remain on 7 points from 8 rounds to finish on the top position.
Yash Paul signed a peace treaty with Asmita Ray to score 6 ½ points and secured runner-up position due to his better tie-breaks scores as a result, Asmita Ray had to settle for the third spot. Ganpule Utkarsh and Keith Albuquerque finished in fourth and fifth place respectively.
A total of 60 participants participated in the tournament out of which 15 were FIDE rated players.
Chief guest Shashikant Kamble (AGM-HR Goa Shipyard) gave away the prizes in the presence of Ularico Rodrigues (Ex-chairperson MMC), Pundalik Nayak (VP MTCA), Mukund Kambli (Secretary MTCA), Anil Patil (Member MTCA), Swapnil Hoble (Coordinator), Mukesh Adhia (Member MTCA), Prashant Raikar( member MTCA) and other dignitaries.
Category-wise prizes were given: U-7 boys: First place: Erwin Albuquerque, second place: Aarush Salgaonkar; girls: first place: Rupika Raikar.
U-9 boys: First place: Nagvenkar Vansh, second place: Atharnv Shetye; girls: First place Sayyed Maizah, second place: Rania Shaikh.
U-11 boys: First place: Skandhaj Kotha, second place: Gupta Vijay; girls: First place: Sayyed Mahdiya, second place: Shriya Sudesh Bhosle.
U-13 boys: First place: Gawas Rohit, second place: Rujesh Raikar; girls: First place: Nitya Keluskar, second place: Yashashvi Kadam.
U-15 boys: First place: Shubh Kalangutkar, second place: Aditya Tari; girls: First place: Charuta Shetye, second place: Vaishno Naik.
