PANJIM: Aliens Basketeers, Foxes Saligao, Vasco Cagers and Vasco Pacers entered the quarter-finals of Senior State Basketball Championship organized by Goa Basketball Association, at Don Bosco Oratory’s indoor stadium, Panjim, Monday.
In pre-quarterfinals, Aliens easily accounted for Fr Agnel’s, Verna 54-26 with veteran Filipe Alvares excelling with an individual tally of 23 points. Sohail Naroo was also in his elements chipping in with some accurate shooting and controlling the pace of the match with his terrific ball handling. Johny top-scored with 12 points for Fr Agnel’s.
Earlier in the day, Foxes Saligao were given a fright by the young lads of DBO Juniors before they won their match 49-38. Johan with 16 points and Craig with 11 points top-scored for Foxes.
It was the pint-sized Nicias of DBO Juniors who kept the Saligao lads on tenterhooks with his three-point shooting. Nicias accounted for 15 points and generally pepped up the pace of the match with his speedy ball-handling.
In late evening matches on Sunday, the two teams from the port town of Vasco – Vasco Cagers and Vasco Pacers – accounted for their respective opponents to make it into the quarters. Vasco Cagers, with Ashis (18 points) doing the bulk of the scoring defeated Blazers 45-17. Joshua with six points played well for Blazers. Vasco Pacers defeated Don Bosco Oratory 40-16 with Rohan (nine points) top-scoring.
