All upcoming chess tourneys in Goa stand postponed

VASCO: As per the guidelines received from All India Chess Federation, The Goa Chess Association (GCA) will have to cancel all chess tournaments where there is participation of lots of parents, children, other players from various parts and also arbiters and volunteers etc, as per the directives from the AICF.

“All the national championships to be held till May 31 stay  postponed and new dates will be notified soon,” states the AICF.

With this regard, the Mormugao Taluka Chess Association has also announced their postponement of late Shree Venkatesh and Sumati Shanbhag Open Rating Chess tournament. Next date will be announced later.

The Unique Chess Academy also postponed their tournament as per the AICF guidelines. The next date will be announced later.

“The Goa Chess Association may also postpone the state selections and are also discussing with Orissa and Mayor Cup organizers our partners in GM tournament scheduled in June, about status in the given situation,” stated GCA Secretary and AICF Treasurer Kishor Bandekar.

“We are very keen about the health of our budding chess players at the same time we watching and monitoring the situation closely as we want the see that the third edition of the international GM is happening,” said GCA President Nilesh Cabral.
