Goa’s super rider, Allan Sequeira, who last Sunday opened a new chapter in 2-wheeler sport becoming Goa’s first-ever National champ in Pune, is poised to annex yet another crown, this time on Goa’s Liberation Day at the National Motocross for TVS Sports and Tourism Goa Gold Cup MX-Championship final round under Goa Motor Sports Association (GMSA) at Gomes Race Track at Annavaddo, Candolim from 3 p.m.
Allan, who is the undisputed Goa’s ace rider, will compete with Nagpur’s Jatin Jain for the top honours as they have 66 points each. However, in the rigorous practice sessions today, both Allan and Jatin experienced nasty falls, with Jatin under medical observation at the time of going to the press tonight. His fitness will be known only tomorrow morning. Should Jatin not be in a position to participate, then Allan will have the motocross title under his belt, irrespective of the final outcome.
Allan’s victory will see the Goan top rider inscribing his name on the coveted trophy, thus making yet another piece of history, besides winning a fully-paid trip by GMSA to witness one of the rounds of FIM’s World Motocross Championships in coming April.
The much-awaited Foreign Open Class will see in all, 13 riders at the grid. That includes US’ trained stuntman Revat Dhillon from Delhi, who is expected to delight the large number of spectators with his daring jumps and daredevil display with the machine.
Ashley Gomes, GMSA president and architect of the track as well as the motorsport in Goa, was busy giving the finishing touches for an eventful finale tomorrow. “With the new, highly technical track design, the riders will be put to the toughest test, with the result there would be plenty to cheer about for the large Sunday crowd that normally flocks to witness the race,” Ashley commented.
“The riders had a test of things to come. It was a new experience for most of them. They found it quite tough, no doubt. Of course, there were falls, which is part of the big event and that will help them to manoeuvre better when it matters the most,” remarked Ashley, who was confident that it will be a great, thrilling finale as the year comes to an end.
“It’s a challenging track and the riders will have to display superior nerves of steel and higher degree of tenacity in skillfully managing the jumps, table tops, woop-de-doos” Ashley summed up.
