PANJIM: One of Goa’s promising young strikers, Aman Govekar scored the only goal of the match as defending champions Don Bosco High School, Panjim edged out St Britto’s High School, Mapusa 1-0 in a spirited final of 2nd annual under-14 inter-school football tournament for the Fr Pedro Arrupe SJ memorial trophy, organized by St Britto High School, Mapusa, recently.
Don Bosco HS edged past Loyola High School, Margao via in the tie-breaker after a spirited semi-final match ended in a goal-less draw.
Earlier, the tournament started tamely with a goalless draw between St Britto and Holy Cross HS, Bastora.
Title holders Don Bosco HS came in the next match and their star player Aman Govekar scored a fine hat-trick in a 4-0 rout over St Joseph High School, Arpora.
Loyola High School, Margao trounced St Xavier High School, Moira 3-0.
Then, SFX High School, Siolim brought down St Joseph Institute, Calangute 2-0.
In the second round of the league, Holy Cross, Bastora beat Chubby Cheeks Spring Valley HS, Pilerne 1-0.
St Britto HS then edged past Chubby Cheeks High School 2-0 to make a berth in the semi-final this year with Jonas D’Souza scoring both the goals for the home team which then proved its superiority over SFX Siolim in the semi-final.
Lavinio Rebello, Vice-President of Goa Football Association gave away the trophy, prizes and mementos to the winners and runner-up teams.
The referees were Ashok Shirodkar, Eknath Salgaokar and Dharma Chodankar.
Deputy Chief Minister of Goa, Francis D’Souza, St Britto alumni was also present for the function and witnessed the entire match.
