MARGAO: Ambelim Sports Club squeezed past Navelim Sporting Club 4-2 via the tie-breaker to enter the final of 29th All-Goa Benaulim soccer tournament organized by Young Strikers, Benaulim, at St John the Baptist ground, Dando-Benaulim, on Wednesday. There was no score at the end of regulation time.
Navelim came close to scoring in the first half when Alister Gomes unleashed a rasping volley but was eventually well saved by the Ambelim custodian Benny Silva.
Post resumption, Navelim SC continued to have the upper hand over their opponents and fired a couple of shots against the rival goal but failed to break the deadlock.
Ambelim Sports Club nearly scored the match-winner in the fag end but striker Samson Fernandes’ shot was cleared off the line by Rosevelt Telles.
In the penalty shoot-out, Richard Fernandes, Primson Fernandes, Daison Cardozo and Samson Fernandes were on target for Ambelim while Wilton Gomes and Avelon Gomes scored for Navelim.
