Ambelim in Fraxier quarters

MARGAO, JULY 28
Ambelim Sports Club  blanked  Sporting Club of Davorlim  2-0 to enter the quarter-finals of 25th Fraxier inter-village football tournament organised by Young Strikers, Benaulim  at St John Baptist ground, Dando, Benaulim on Wednesday. Ambelim were leading 1-0 at half time.
Maxwin Fernandes gave Ambelim the perfect start when he unleashed a stiff grounder  after he received a through pass from Primson Fernandes.
Relying on their compact defence, marshaled by Joseph Fernandes and Mauricio Fernandes, Ambelim did not allow their opponents to manoeuvre inside the territory.
At the other end, Davorlim came close to scoring  midway in the opening session but  Agnelo Colaco’s free kick, outside the rival penalty box, was taken care of by Ambelim goalkeeper Danny D’Silva.
Ambelim kept up the offensive but could not increase their tally due inept shooting by their forwards.
After  the change ends, Ambelim called  the shots and were rewarded when striker Samson Fernandes unleashed a snap shot  after picking up a pass from Romeo Fernandes. The try was fisted away by Davorlim goalkeeper Joaquim Figueiredo and  Samson  pounced on the deflection to keep the goalkeeper dazed.
Davorlim tried their best to score but failed to get past the rival rearguard.
