RAIA: Favourites Ambelim SC made short work of Chandor SC 2-0 to enter the semi-finals of Cavelossim Villagers UK Cup organised by Santa Cruz Club of Cavelossim at Fr Druston and Wellington ground, Cavelossim, on Thursday.
Ambelim SC’s bunch of young footballers led by captain Perryson Fernandes were very effective on the right flank with Semson Fernandes dribbling on the line and crossing the ball time and again. However, Nash Pinto and Jarel D’Silva failed to control the ball and were easily challenged by Cruz Gomes and Sevaraj D’Costa who were outstanding in the Chandor SC defence.
Ambelim SC took the lead when Rozwin Fernandes shot the ball in the Chandor SC penalty area which was missed by Chandor SC defender Fayden Pereira allowing Semson Fernandes to sneak in and shoot the ball into the goal from a hand-shaking distance.
In the second half, Ambelim SC forwards had a major share of the attack. Perryson took a throw from the left sideline which was headed by Nash Pinto to Arvind Fernandes on the sideline who crossed the ball to Jarel D’Silva to tap the ball in, with goalkeeper Akram Yadwad out of position to take a 2-0 lead and take Ambelim SC into the semi-finals.
