MARGAO: Ambelim Veterans came from behind to defeat Siolim Veterans 2-1 and storm into the semi-finals of all-Goa Navelim Veterans football tournament organized by Navelim Veterans at Rosary ground, Navelim, Thursday. The score was 1-1 at half time.

Ambelim dominated and kept their opponents on the backfoot in the initial period. However, Siolim forged ahead against the run of play in the 10th minute when Alfred Fernandes punished the rival goalkeeper with a deft placement.

Stung by the early reverse, Ambelim launched well orchestrated raids and their efforts materialized in the 17th minute when Brissio Fernandes cancelled the lead off a pass from Mario Soares.

Spurred by the equalizer, Ambelim took control of the match. Former India midfielder Mario Soares kept his forwards busy with a stream of passes. Former Dempo defender Jerry Fernandes was rock solid and never allowed the rival attackers any space to conduct any raids.

After resumption, Ambelim swarmed all over the rival territory and called the shots against the rival citadel. Brissio Fernandes struck the match-winner midway in the second half to complete his brace.

Sioilim Veterans tried their best to restore parity but failed to get past the rival strong defence.
